Transform Your Life - A Daily Practice

~ an eight week course

 Happiness – Where and How?
What is happiness and how does it arise?  How can we keep it?
Meditation: Developing confidence in our ability to find true happiness.

 Meditation – the basics
Why should we learn to meditate?  How to get started and then keep our practice going. What are the essentials of a daily practice?
Meditation: Breathing Meditation

 Our Precious Human Life
Recognising why our life is precious.  If we can find value and meaning in each moment of our life it will be easy to maintain a happy mind.  This attitude is also a source of great energy we can use to bring real meaning and joy to our self and others.
Meditation: Our Precious Human Life

 Being Kind to Others
Showing consideration for others is important for everyone.  IF we refrain from inappropriate actions we will stop harming ourselves and others.  This attitude is also the foundation for developing good qualities such and love and compassion.

Meditation:  Determination to refrain from engaging in negative actions.

 Transforming Problems into Solutions
A sign of maturity is accepting that we shall have to experience unwished-for situations in life and there’s not much we can do to stop that.  In this class we learn to turn our problems to our advantage.
Meditation:  Determination to use our problems positively.

 The Supreme Good Heart
Love is real protection against negativity and suffering and also an inexhaustible source of happiness.  Through learning to love those around us free from self interest we can solve many of our daily problems and our life will become happy and meaningful.
Meditation: Love

 Letting Go
When our mind is free from grasping and craving we naturally experience inner peace and contentment and can be of real benefit to others.  This mental attitude of non-attachment is essential if we want to create the causes of inner peace.
Meditation: developing the wish to experience inner peace

 Faith and Blessings
All virtuous minds are pervaded by faith.  Without faith and blessings our mind can not support the growth of virtuous qualities like love and compassion.  To find lasting happiness it is therefore essential to increase our faith.

Meditation: Generating faith in virtue

Meditation Class Description

What is a typical class like?

A typical class consists of a gentle relaxation meditation, teaching, discussion, and final meditation. The meditations are guided and are suitable for beginners as well as the experienced. Each class is self-contained so feel free to join at any time!

Why meditate?

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful.  If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful we shall find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions.  If we train in meditation our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we shall experience a purer and purer form of happiness.  Eventually we shall be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

“When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within.”
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
